Get a Good Computer
It might sound obvious, but the most important piece of equipment you can own to improve you online learning experience is a good computer. The courses that you take will most likely include multimedia elements that look the best on a newer computer. Depending on your degree program, you might even be required to run specific software on your computer. To be able to run this software, your computer must meet the minimum systems requirements of the software. This is why online schools often list minimum system requirements for their degree programs. Without meeting these requirements, you will not be able to do your work.
Sometimes they also list "recommended" systems requirements. Many students wonder what the difference is between "required" and "recommended." Simply put, if you meed the "minimum" requirements, you will be able to do the work that is assigned to you, but your experience will be much better if you meet the "recommended" requirements. If you are in a computer-intensive degree program such as computer programming or graphic design, you might even be able to complete your work quicker with a better computer! So, when you are talking to your online college, make sure to ask them specific questions about the computer requirements. You will be glad that you did!
